What is Developmental Language Disorder?

Children who have a lower-than-normal proficiency in vocabulary, the production of complex sentences, and recall of words may be found to have a developmental expressive language disorder, also called Semantic-Pragmatic Disorder.

If your child has been diagnosed with a Pervasive Developmental Disorder, he or she may also be diagnosed with this condition.

Symptoms of Developmental Language Disorder

  • Below-average vocabulary skills
  • Improper use of tenses (past, present, future)
  • Problems in the production of complex sentences
  • Problems in recalling words
  • What is the treatment?

If your child is diagnosed with this disorder, language, and speech therapy can help increase the number of phrases a child can use.
