What is Developmental Dyspraxia?

Developmental Dyspraxia

Developmental Dyspraxia is a disorder that impairs a child’s ability to plan and carry out sensory and motor tasks. Generally, children with the disorder appear “out of sync” with their environment.

What are the symptoms of dyspraxia?

The symptoms vary and may include:

  • Poor balance and coordination
  • Clumsiness
  • Vision problems
  • Perception difficulties
  • Emotional and behavioral problems
  • Difficulty with reading, writing, and speaking
  • Poor social skills
  • Poor posture
  • Poor short-term memory

Dyspraxia Treatments

Treatment for Dyspraxia is symptomatic and supportive.  it may include occupational and speech therapy and cueing, or other forms of communication, such as using pictures and hand gestures. Many children with dyspraxia require special education.
