Pumpkin Carving Time
October 1, 2014October is PA’s Promise for Children Month!
October 6, 2014Today kicks off our very first FINGER FOOD FRIDAY! Feeding our kids, eating and nutrition are (almost) ALWAYS at the top of our “Things Mommy Worries About” list! Just ask my kids!
Recent words that have TRULY come out of my mouth…
“No, we can’t have Cheez-balls for breakfast.”
“Are those apples good, now that you are dipping them in ketchup?”
“I’m pretty sure he has a piece of dog food in his mouth.”
This topic is so powerful, that we have decided to make it a weekly discussion! It’s the kind of thing we lay in bed and worry about at night…and I’m here to tell you, YOU’RE NOT ALONE! As the Mom of three kids, now 11, 8 and 5, I was blessed with two great eaters and one very picky eater. And be prepared to hear ALL about it… But before we dive too far in to specific Stories, Struggles, Strategies and Successes, (the 4 S’s!) let’s take a step back and talk about FOOD!
Food not only tastes great (or awful – depending on the cook!), but it leaves us with MEMORIES! Food is the CENTER of important family and social gatherings. Snow White bit the apple! Cookies and milk for Santa! Turkey on Thanksgiving! Popcorn and a movie! Tailgating at a sporting event! What’s the common factor? FOOD! Do toddlers know this? Nope. But we do! We don’t think about it in those terms, but FOOD is a BIG DEAL! And therefore, eating is a big deal to us as adults…but it’s not all fun and games, it’s VITAL for our EXISTENCE! Do we need buffalo wings and nachos to exist? Of course not, silly, it was just an example of how important food can be to us as adults.
What we do need, and WHAT WE AS PARENTS SEEK OUT, are ways to make healthy meals, teach our children to make healthy choices, how to make mealtime fun for our pickier eaters, and creative ideas! This is exactly what we plan to do with you on FINGER FOOD FRIDAYS!
Tell us, what would you like to hear about? Does mealtime stress you out as much as it stresses me out? (see my blog about making a week of meals – yes it’s always on my brain!) What crazy phrases have you recently said to your children about food? Sit down for a bite, and share with us!
